JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Health Sciences is currently seeking a full-time Faculty Tenure Track position.

Adelphi University is the premiere institution in Health Education Teaching Preparation on Long Island. The Health Education Program currently offers both a Masters in Health Education and an Advanced Certification in School Health Education. Also, it features dual certification programming with physical education as well. A recently developed 4 + 1 program allows students to earn a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Health Education in 5 years with many health courses completed during the initial four-year period and included in undergraduate tuition. Or students can combine a Masters in Physical Education with an Advanced Certification in School Health Education. The programs are housed in the department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Health Sciences. The department also offers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Physical Activity Studies, and Sport Management as well as graduate programs in Community Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Health Education, Nutrition, Physical Activity Studies, and Sport Management. These academic programs prepare practitioners, administrators, researchers and leaders within all relevant career fields. .

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Teach undergraduate and graduate Physical Education Teacher Education courses to a diverse student population in initial and advanced teacher certification program primarily within Adapted and Inclusive Physical Education.

+ Secondary teaching responsibilities could be in the areas of health-related fitness, pedagogy, motor behavior, technology and assessment, or research methods.

+ Courses include Adapted Physical Education, Introduction to Physical Activity, Health-Related Fitness Education, Physical Education for the Exceptional Child at any of the Universitys sites.

+ Advise and mentor students.

+ Provide service to school, university, and community.

+ Establish or continue a research line within physical education, physical activity, wellness, or a related field.

+ Collaborate with the Chair and faculty of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences for program administration and to develop and implement dynamic curriculum and program enhancements.

+ Aid in student recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with the University.

+ Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, night and/or on Saturday and in a variety of formats including online, blended, and face-to-face, to include teaching in Garden City on Long Island, New York, at the Manhattan Center in downtown New York City, and other off-campus locations.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

+ A PhD or EdD in Phys Ed or a related field (ABDs will be considered who are currently completing their dissertation and have completed a Masters in PE);

+ A record of an active ongoing, scholarly agenda.

+ Experience teaching adapted physical education courses, such as Adapted Physical Education, Introduction to Physical Activity, or Physical Education for the Exceptional Child.

+ At least 1 year experience to include teaching adapted physical education courses, teacher certification, student teaching, professional organizations, student mentoring, and assistance with ongoing accreditation activities.

+ Academic experiences (teaching, scholarship and/or service) with culturally diverse populations that enhance instruction of teacher candidates regarding culturally responsive teaching.

+ Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New Yorks Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $76,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
