Job Description
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment begins August 2025. We are seeking candidates with teaching and scholarly expertise in the following areas: Digital Sociology, Applied Sociology, Appalachia, and or Migration.While topical specialization is open, we are interested in candidates who complement, not duplicate, the work of existing faculty. Teaching experience is required. Experience with and an interest in developing interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with other academic programs at Marshall University (e.g., Digital Humanities; Appalachian Studies; Cybersecurity; Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies)and within the greater Huntington community is highly desired.
Duties: Primary responsibilities include a) teaching core and elective courses in the undergraduate and graduate sociology major, with elective courses within the successful candidate's area of specialization; b) contributing to the University's general education curriculum, with its emphasis on courses that enhance students' critical thinking; c) maintaining an active program of research; d) supervision of student research; e) service to the institution, community, and profession.
The program expects its faculty and students to contribute to Marshall University's commitment to engagement through applied research and community-based learning and collaboration. Experience with grant writing is highly desirable.

Education
PhD in Sociology. Applicants who are ABD can apply but must have a completed doctoral degree in sociology at the time of appointment.
