A Brief Overview The Registered Nurse in the Clinic is accountable for providing high quality professional care in their scope of practice to patients and families under the supervision of a provider.
What you will do
- Performs nursing assessments and evaluation of patients, documenting information. Provides continuity of care through verbal and written communication.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Coordinates the patient care activities for the clinic.
- Suggests solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.
- Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider.
- Oversees appointment scheduling and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.
- Screens patients for appropriate information including obtaining the health history, taking vitals and conducting a nursing assessment.
- Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Triages calls and messages within scope of license.
- Maintains and views patient records, charts, and other pertinent information to include, but not limited to the following: chart visits at end of day and/or all necessary information and drugs prescribed, work up new patient charts, review all lab, hospital and other reports.
- Educate patient and family about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Assures appropriate labeling and packaging of lab specimens according to lab procedures and x-rays according to radiology procedures. Assists in cleaning/maintaining lab equipment. Maintains a reference log to assure patient test results returned. Follow up on any missing reports.
- Prepares the equipment and assists provider during procedures, treatments, examinations and testing of patients within scope of license.
- Responsible for IV administration of fluids and intravenous medications, injections and venous access maintenance and care, heplocks, working with picc lines and porta-caths.
- Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and material. Ensures cleanliness in exam rooms and orders and maintains supply of medications.
- Outreach to clinic sites as needed.
- Flexible work schedule to accommodate organization, physician and patient needs.
- Documents appropriately to meet Accountable Care Organization (ACO) guidelines.
- Assists patients with referrals to other specialties as indicated by the provider and assures proper education and documentation.
- Scheduling surgeries/ancillary services/referral as needed per direction of provider.
- Prevents the spread of infection and maintains adequate infection prevention measures.
- Assists in the Urgent Care Clinic upon rotation.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Associate's Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or
- Breath, Alcohol, and Drug Collection Certification - Licensing Board if providing services in Occupational Medicine Upon Hire and
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing State of Minnesota Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
