Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Applications are invited for a full-time lecturer position starting in August 2024. Lecturers are sought to serve as primary instructors of undergraduate courses for the Biocomputational Engineering (BCE) degree program, a new program within the Fischell Department of Bioengineering. The lecturer will also be responsible for advising undergraduate students and will be expected to contribute in departmental service. The Fischell Department of Engineering is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill this open position with primary teaching responsibilities to include the following anticipated courses:

  • Python for Data Analysis
  • Statistics, Data Analysis, and Data Visualization
  • Machine Learning for Data Analysis
  • Imaging and Image Processing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, data science, computer science, computer engineering, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Candidates with an M.S. and four or more years of experience in the field will also be considered.

Preferences:

  • A record of outstanding teaching and teaching experience beyond the graduate teaching assistant level is preferred.

This non-tenure-track position will come with a competitive salary, full benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth. This position does not provide sponsorship for Visas.

The Biocomputational Engineering Degree is offered at the Universities at Shady Grove campus, located in Rockville, MD. The BCE degree differs from the bioengineering program in that it offers a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes statistics, data analysis, data visualization, machine learning, and programming in addition to the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, and biology.

The BCE degree program admits transfer students that have completed an Associate’s Degree/60 credits in Engineering or a closely related STEM field. Instruction for the remaining 60 credits required to earn a B.S. degree will take place within the newly-constructed Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Educational Facility (BSE) on the Shady Grove Campus. The BSE is a six-level, 220,000 square foot LEED Platinum certified facility equipped with world-class research and educational facilities. The building features state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, active learning classrooms, and product design spaces for student research.

Women, minorities, LGBTQ+, veterans, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
