Job Description

MATRIX is currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our team. In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing complex nuclear projects for a client nationwide. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our heavy-lift activities, while adhering to all relevant regulations.

Please note that candidates must successfully pass a background check and drug test to gain access to a US Nuclear Facility.

Prior experience in nuclear power generation, heavy rigging, and the movement of heavy equipment is highly desirable.

This position will primarily be located in Memphis, TN, with occasional travel to project sites as required. The initial assignment may be in San Luis Obispo, CA. Remote work arrangements are also possible.

Responsibilities

  • Developing detailed plans for heavy-lift operations, including rigging, load path analysis, equipment selection, and contingency planning.
  • Inspecting structures to ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards.
  • Preparing technical documentation and specifications for approval by engineering and regulatory authorities.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforcing safety protocols in accordance with ASME, OSHA, AISC, ANSI, and project-specific guidelines.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks during heavy-lift operations.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborating with plant teams to seamlessly integrate heavy-lift activities into project schedules.
  • Acting as a liaison between plant personnel, equipment suppliers, contractors, and other engineering firms.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or a related Engineering field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to heavy-lift operations in the nuclear power industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in replacing feedwater heaters, including complete and bundle-only options.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Lift Planner, and industry-specific software.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (OSHA, AISC, ASME, ANSI).
  • Strong skills in engineering analysis tools (RISA-3D, Ansys, Mathcad) and project management software (MS Excel, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning and CAD for clearance checks is advantageous.

Certifications:

  • Preferred possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license, particularly from California.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and reporting abilities are highly valued.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills are essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work in diverse environments, including outdoor and construction settings.
