Compensation: annual + bonus eligibility

Location: Greater Houston, 100% in office M-F, Business Professional attire.

Our client is a maritime transportation and logistics service company based in Houston for almost 50 years. We are currently looking for an ethical, hardworking, operationally focused CAO to lead the accounting team and help support the continued growth and success of the company. This is a great opportunity to come in during a transitional phase and launch the company into the next wave of success. You will be taking a consultative approach being a direct hire salaried employee, with a major upside in compensation during the process.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Assist in the preparation of the work-in-progress schedule
  • Assist with job cost review
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance
  • Payroll tax, releasing of payroll
  • Collaborating with the legal department for financial matters
  • Building rapport with investors, bringing in business relationships with banks and ports

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an esteemed institution
  • 3.2 GPA or higher
  • MBA required
  • CPA is Required
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management required
  • Demonstrable process improvement and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are vital
