Your Mission
As a server lead on the Overwatch team, you will be part of a hardworking and passionate team developing world-class server technology, unlocking the potential of our engineers, designers, and artists to create compelling and exciting features and keep players engaged for years to come.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the challenges involved with authoring game server infrastructure, features, and systems, and will be comfortable leading a team of engineers while collaborating closely with other internal teams.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide Technical Direction: Guide the server infrastructure team in developing innovative solutions, setting technical standards, and ensuring the high quality of server technology.
- Personnel Management: Oversee the server engineering team, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and career development of team members.
- Engineering Leadership: Take an active role in the team’s leadership, representing the server engineers in interdisciplinary discussions and decisions.
- Continuous Improvement: Own and drive the process of continuous enhancement for the server engineering team, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, producers, designers, and other internal partners to implement features and enhance the Overwatch platform, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
- Task and Schedule Management: Collaborate with other leads and producers to establish tasks, schedules, and priorities, ensuring projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
- Relationship Management: Maintain effective and productive relationships with key internal partners, facilitating clear communication and collaboration across departments.
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in AAA game development
- Experience creating and extending reusable server technology
- Experience working on a networked multiplayer game
- Experience working on and maintaining a live game
- Previous leadership experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong C++ programming skills
- Passion for server and/or networking technology
- Experience integrating a game with various 1st and 3rd party platforms
- Experience working on first-person or other action-oriented games
- Experience working with large scale distributed systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $121,500.00 - $224,880.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location.
