Job Description
The Sr Consultant Level Engineer's main focus is to guarantee that all implementations in which the employee is participating or developing are following the best solution possible for that problem and that the solution can scale indefinitely and doesn’t have any integrity problems.
What you'll do
- Ensure that the systems with which the employee participates or develops can scale indefinitely and it doesn’t have any integrity problems.
- Ensure that the staff engineering guidelines and standards are being applied to the current systems.
- Help other software engineers in any implementation.
- Identify possible flaws that are present in the current system that were not yet discovered by the teams.
- Participate in implementations that are cross squads.
- Lead architectural system designs on the most complex systems.
- Understand the context of multiple different work streams, and offer effective technical advice and support for those workstreams while still maintaining excellent velocity.
- Demonstrate high product awareness for areas of the business they are working with.
- Understand the importance of product-market fit and work closely with product leadership to ensure we’re making the right decisions across one or more squads.
- Regularly challenge their team or area to have a greater sense of urgency for company priorities and step up to lead when required.
- Able to proactively propose strategy for engineering within their Collective/Discipline, and knows how to effectively get buy-in and move this forward.
This is a remote position. A remote position does not require job duties to be performed within proximity of a Visa office location. Remote positions may be required to be present at a Visa office with scheduled notice.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD.
Qualifications
9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
Live in the US.
Experience with Backend, such as Golang or Java/Groovy.
Cloud, Event-driven, Distributed condition, Distributed Transactions.
Desirable experience with observability/metrics, OpenAPI, Load Testing, Terraform, DevOps, Financial Experience.
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $143,200 to $207,800 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
