GovCIO Senior Cyber Security Specialist Carson City, Nevada Apply Now

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior Cyber Security Specialist (Remote). This position is 100% remote. Core Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). This individual will support cybersecurity efforts across multiple stakeholders and agencies in support of the VA Health Services Portfolio.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide expert-level support to cybersecurity efforts across multiple stakeholders within the VA Health Services Portfolio.
  2. Lead strategic security initiatives, consult on complex projects, and oversee teams to ensure comprehensive security compliance and risk management.
  3. Correlate threat data from various sources to establish the identity and modus operandi of hackers active in client's networks and posing a potential threat.
  4. Provide assessments and reports facilitating situational awareness and understanding of current cyber threats and adversaries.
  5. Develop cyber threat profiles based on geographic region, country, group, or individual actors.
  6. Produce cyber threat assessments based on entity threat analysis.
  7. May provide computer forensic and intrusion support to high technology investigations.
  8. Research and maintain proficiency in tools, techniques, countermeasures, and trends in computer network vulnerabilities, data hiding, and network security and encryption.
  9. Communicate and provide consultative support on matters related to system security certification & accreditation and Authority to Operate (ATO).
  10. Coordinate and lead security and privacy activities within project teams and develop security and privacy related artifacts.
  11. Review and identify system/application security controls in accordance with NIST SP-800 53 Rev 4 guidance and VA Handbook 6500.
  12. Perform cyber security and information system risk analysis, vulnerability assessment, and regulatory compliance assessment.
  13. Responsible for on-time deliverables of assigned and related security and privacy artifacts.
  14. Identify and mitigate risks to the program.
  15. Demonstrate experience in a remote work environment.
  16. Proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal and external project stakeholders.
  17. Support adoption of new technologies and products by performing research, identifying security-related issues, and developing adoption plans.
  18. Work independently with minimal guidance and supervision.
  19. Participate in support activities related to the integration of security architecture & engineering efforts in the SDLC IT lifecycle.
  20. Support a team of other cybersecurity professionals.
  21. Support application development/maintenance and IT operations with DevSecOps and Agile practices.
  22. Build and develop cybersecurity related artifacts.
  23. Implement scans, cloud security solutions; analyze, evaluate, and plan enterprise solutions.
  24. Resolve requests for assistance in troubleshooting issues.
  25. Participate in the planning of upgrades, replacement, configuration, and maintenance of security architecture and engineering projects.
  26. Analyze process improvement areas/recommend changes to processes/procedures for efficiencies/cost-savings.
  27. Support ATO, the VA System Steward, and the VA ISSO in support of ATCs, ATOs, eMASS, REEF, and other security tracking systems.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience).
  2. Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), NIST-800-53 guidance, HIPAA, and HITECH Act.
  3. Experience achieving an ATO for projects within the VA or other Federal Agencies.
  4. Experience supporting Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation (C&A).
  5. Ticketing systems experience such as Remedy, ServiceNow.
  6. Ability to work both independently and to supervise and lead collaborations.
  7. Demonstrated experience in a remote work environment.
  8. Security+ or other applicable certification.
  9. Analytical and investigation skills.
  10. Able to obtain Suitability/Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  1. Experience as a VA ISSO or System Steward.
  2. Experience with the VA’s Governance, Risk management and Compliance (GRC) Tool - eMASS.
  3. CISSP certification.
  4. Experience with achieving an ATO for Software as a Service (SaaS) and/or Cloud based applications.

Posted Salary Range

USD $140,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
