Description of Work Unit: Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Department of Physics maintains a tradition of excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Department Research Scientist/Scholars participate in research on three continents with programs in many of the most active and exciting areas of physics.
Position Summary: The high-energy physics and particle astrophysics group of Professor Norm Buchanan of the Physics Department at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins seeks to hire a software engineer or computer programmer to develop software for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE ). Potential areas of involvement are high-performance computing infrastructure, database design, analysis framework design, and movement and storage of large datasets. The position also involves supporting department computing infrastructure. Please note this position is funded until September 30, 2025. Subject to available funding, the department intends to continue the position after the initial funding expires.
Required Job Qualifications:
- BS, or equivalent, degree in computer science, physics, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of programming experience
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Expertise in C++ and Python
- Expertise in one or more of the following:
- High-Performance computing
- Database design and development
- Data analysis framework design and implementation
- Movement and storage of large data sets
- Code management
- Experience working in a collaborative environment
- Knowledge of or experience in physics
