JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Senior Project Architect to join our studio to lead the design, documentation, and implementation of projects that range in scale and type from new cultural and educational buildings to contemporary interventions in historic precincts, as well as multi-family and individual residential construction. As a Senior Project Architect at STR | A·D, you will work closely with the lead design principal and a collaborative team of architects and designers to shape projects that resonate with their environment and meet the needs of the communities they serve. We are seeking a well-rounded architect with strong design and technical expertise in all phases of design and construction. The role includes hands-on involvement in the documentation and coordination of projects in addition to mentoring and overseeing the work of junior architects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the team through all phases of design -- including concept, schematic, design development, and construction documents and administration for multiple projects.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, consultants, project stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in the preparation and coordination of technical documents, including drawings and specifications for construction.
  • Mentor junior architects and designers, providing design and technical guidance and oversight throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors to establish project program, scope, and budgets.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable codes, standards, and guidelines.
  • Ensure the architectural vision is accurately implemented during construction, resolving design challenges and technical issues as they arise.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring that deliverables are met on schedule and within financial parameters.
  • Provide leadership in initiating and integrating sustainable design strategies and energy-efficient solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • Licensed Architect with current registration in New York.
  • 15+ years of experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role on completed projects.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative attitude, with a passion for architecture.
  • Proven experience managing complex projects, including institutional and residential buildings.
  • Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Exceptional design and visualization skills, with an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Proficiency in architectural design software (AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam Revu).
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and technologies.
  • Familiarity with building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience with preparation of contracts and fee proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, timelines, and client expectations.
  • LEED accreditation or other sustainability-related certifications are a plus.
