Qualifications

Basic Requirements Qualifications for Computer Science Series, 1550:

Degree: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

NOTE: TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include all of the following:

  • Ability to apply the theoretical foundations of computer science; i.e. computer system architecture, software organization, and other transformational models.
  • Knowledge of the design characteristics and other potential applications, processes, and techniques of computing information.
  • Knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences.
  • Knowledge of machine learning principles and the application of A.I., including the application of computers to solve problems and understand the principles of human intelligence.
