The Senior Vice President & Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Everest is a key executive responsible for setting and executing the investment strategy for the firm’s investments within the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry. The CIO oversees the management of the ~40Bn global investment portfolio, ensuring alignment with the company’s financial goals, regulatory requirements, and overall business objectives. This role is pivotal in driving the financial success of Everest by making informed investment decisions and managing risk effectively. This position reports into the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), based in Warren, NJ. The work schedule is hybrid with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office. There is flexibility for working in the New York, NY office periodically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investment Strategy Development: Create and oversee investment strategies that align with the company’s financial goals and risk tolerance, including the establishment of an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) guidelines.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage the company’s investment portfolio, ensuring diversification, adequate credit quality, and optimal returns, either directly or through a team of investment professionals. This includes internally managed portfolios and externally managed portfolios.
  • Risk and Liquidity Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks associated with investments while ensuring investment activities maintain adequate liquidity and support the organization’s operational needs.
  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes to make informed investment decisions.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of investment analysts and portfolio managers.
  • Performance Reporting: Compile and present regular reports on investment performance to stakeholders, including executive management, the Board investment committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Compliance: Ensure all investment activities comply with relevant regulations and standards, following SAA guidelines approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Clearly communicate investment strategies, goals, and expectations to Board members, shareholders, the investment committee, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • External Collaboration: Work with external portfolio managers, analysts, and investors to source, manage, and monitor investments.
  • Budget and Planning: Manage the internal net investment income and general expense budgets and 5-year plan processes, including modeling revenue and expense forecasts. Develop the annual SAA guidelines.
  • Information Management: Enhance internal information management, including dynamic, up-to-date dashboards.
  • New Portfolios and Strategies: Help establish new portfolios and investment strategies, ensuring proper resource management.
  • Information Systems Initiatives: Lead information systems initiatives within the Investments domain.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in investment management, preferably within the P&C insurance industry.
  • Experience in a multinational insurance carrier is preferred.
  • Advanced degree in finance, economics, or a related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Deep understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and risk management principles.
  • Proven track record leading a team of investment professionals and managing external relationships.
