Base pay range

$120,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr

Location: Columbia, MD (Hybrid – 2–4 days onsite/week)

Compensation: $120,000–$135,000 base (flexible for the right candidate)

The BayTech Group is supporting a confidential client seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer to join a small but highly specialized team working on real-time, high-availability systems used in critical operational environments. This role combines classic Linux engineering with deployment, integration, and hardware/software troubleshooting, and is ideal for someone who thrives in a hybrid technical and operational role.

What You’ll Do:

• Configure, integrate, and support custom software/hardware systems across test lab and customer environments
• Assist with on-prem deployments—installing hardware, configuring servers, and ensuring end-to-end system functionality
• Perform hands-on Linux system administration and work with containerized applications (Docker/Podman)
• Participate in lab testing, bug triage, and system validation for new software builds
• Support field installations and upgrades—travel may be required up to 25% (domestic and international)
• Help document processes, build procedures, and system configurations

What You Bring:

• 3+ years in a Linux Systems Engineering or related infrastructure role
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar environments
• Scripting with Python (or Bash) for automation, deployment, or config tasks
• Familiarity with Docker , networking concepts, and server environments
• Ability to work across hardware and software layers in highly integrated systems
• Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to get hands-on with unfamiliar technologies
• U.S. Citizenship required ; ability to obtain a clearance is a must

Bonus Experience:

• Background in Command and Control (C2/C4ISR), defense tech, or other operational systems
• Experience supporting field-deployed software platforms or mission-critical infrastructure
