About the Role

The Workplace Experience (WE) team is dedicated to supporting our North America Corporate Offices across Gap Inc. and its iconic house of brands. Our mission is to transform and enable a high-performance workplace that not only meets employee needs and leadership goals but also serves as a catalyst for our culture.
Workplace Experience is seeking a Director of Workplace Environments to be based out of our San Francisco, CA headquarters.
As the Director of Workplace Environments, you will serve in a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of workplace projects. This position ensures that office spaces are functional, represent Gap Inc/Brands, and aligned with the organization’s culture, operational needs, and financial goals.
This role is integral to creating work environments that enhance employee productivity, reflect the company’s brand, and support overall organizational success.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for workplace design and construction projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Project Management: Oversee all phases of construction projects from conception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and building regulations.
  • Design Oversight: Collaborate with designers, engineers, and architects to establish project designs that meet functional requirements and reflect the company’s brand and culture.
  • Budget Management: Develop project budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-control measures to ensure financial objectives are met. Proactively track and update large budgets in partnership with finance and team leads.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of construction managers, designers, and other professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Establish annual OKRs for the team that tie to the greater WE & Gap Inc strategy
  • Vendor and Contractor Management: Select, negotiate with, and manage external vendors and contractors to ensure quality and adherence to project specifications. Maintain strong partnership with procurement.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure the delivery of defect-free workspaces that meet organizational standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement action plans to address them.
  • Lead a team in establishing space and project standards, including ROM tools, Furniture and design standards

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in workplace/office construction and design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing workplace projects & senior teams
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale construction projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies for workplace design and construction that align with organizational goals.
  • Project Management: Expertise in managing complex projects, including resource allocation, timeline management, and risk assessment.
  • Design Acumen: Strong understanding of design principles and the ability to oversee the creation of functional and aesthetically pleasing workspaces.
  • Financial Management: Ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze financial reports, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, manage performance, and foster professional development.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to stakeholders at all levels.
