Responsibilities:
Job purpose
The Quality Lab Technician role is responsible to perform various quality tests to ensure product meets customer need, regulatory requirements, and that the manufacturing process is within prescribed limits.
Duties and responsibilities
The primary job duties and responsibilities are:
- Follows all documented safety, quality, and production procedures.
- Monitors process for changes in conditions and raw material.
- Performs various tests on incoming raw material and product.
- Perform quality check on in-process products. (e.g. UPC scanning, correct print, bundle weight, hinges, moisture)
- Implements countermeasures for quality defects.
- Monitors overall quality of product on shift.
- Monitors and record test results.
- Communicates changes in operating conditions and quality defects to supervisors.
- Removes all supplies from work area not required.
- Immediately addresses and reports safety issues or hazards.
- Maintains excellent safety record.
- Maintains excellent attendance record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience
Experience required:
- At least three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment (pulp and paper industry preferred); including successful completion of jobs or similar activities requiring control of a mechanical process and inspection of product to meet quality standards.
- Demonstrated self-compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of statistical process control (SPC).
- Prior laboratory experience preferred.
Skills
An individual must have the following skills in the Quality Lab Technician position:
- Ability to work safely and to communicate with others in a professional manner.
- Detail-oriented.
- Technical aptitude for evaluating a process.
Physical requirements
This position is located in a manufacturing location. Physical requirements will include but are not limited to:
- Standing for lengthy periods of time (frequent)
- Sitting for extended periods of time (frequent)
- Climbing up/downstairs/ladders/platforms (occasional)
- Working in a manufacturing environment that includes periods of hot and cold weather, dust, noise above 85 dBA, occasional odors, and moving equipment (frequent)
Working conditions
An individual that works in the Quality Lab Technician position:
- Must be physically able to perform the essential job duties.
- Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour schedule.
- Works overtime as required.
