Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design on all aspects of electrical power systems. These aspects include designing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design
  • Recommend and select electrical equipment, write equipment specifications, and provide project and construction cost estimates and schedules
  • Design and/or prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power generation, transmission and distribution systems, including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonic analysis, and other related studies
  • Develop protective relay settings for a variety of systems, including those designed by General Electric, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Siemens, and ABB (formerly ASEA Brown Boveri)
  • Develop engineering files to aid in the programming of SCADA electrical protocols that control networked data communications and graphical user interfaces for process supervisory management of commercial and/or industrial control systems
  • Compile data and write reports detailing the scope and outcome of electrical systems projects
  • Assist with development and troubleshooting of protection and control field test procedures and provide guidance to field personnel in the execution of protection and control tests
  • Review field test results for accuracy, provide input on test results, and train team members on various aspects of electrical power systems engineering
  • Guide Techs in its pursuit of Professional Engineer licensure and designation in various jurisdictions
  • Provide estimates on labor and material costs for budget and bid preparation purposes

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license from a U.S. jurisdiction required. Must have also passed both the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam and the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
  • Knowledge and expertise with medium and high voltage power systems, including generation, transmission and distribution networks
  • Knowledge and expertise with PV and Wind power generation systems and collection substation design and studies
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Power system modeling software such as EasyPower, ETAP or SKM
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Interaction with clients, customers, contractors, and others
  • Assist with client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings
