Position Summary - Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing accounts receivable, cash receipting, and capital asset functions. This role also supports accounts payable and serves as the primary backup for that function. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in governmental accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Receipts & Accounts Receivable

Process bank deposit cash receipts and update the general ledger Generate customer invoices, process payments, and manage account adjustments Prepare aging reports and reconcile accounts receivable sub-ledger Issue past-due notices and manage collections

Capital Assets

Track and maintain the capital asset system Prepare journal entries and depreciation reports for the general ledger Compile year-end audit reports related to capital assets

General Accounting

Perform account reconciliations, including meter inventory and electrical inspector reconciliations File MN Sales Tax Returns and other required regulatory reports

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Minimum of three years of accounting experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

Year-end audit workpaper preparation experience. Fund accounting experience.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Proficient in financial reporting and reconciliations. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Primarily office-based with moderate noise levels. Requires prolonged sitting, occasional walking, and minimal lifting (up to 25 lbs). Reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities.

Work Model: 90 days in office required during training/on-boarding but organization does offer a hybrid work model Compensation: $83,000 - $95,000/year
