Freese and Nichols is currently searching for an experienced licensed engineer to join our Treatment, Transmission & Utilities team in Central Texas as a Transmission and Utilities Senior Project Manager for our Austin or San Antonio, Texas office.
The Project Engineer will lead the analysis, design, construction administration, and preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications for various transmission and utilities projects. As a Technical Expert / Senior Project Manager, the candidate will have responsibility to lead the designs, manage scope, schedule, and budget, prepare client communications and conduct client meetings for the projects mentioned above.
Technical Expertise
- Serves as senior technical resource for key clients by leveraging resources, experience, and skills of the firm to support client goals.
- Participates in professional and technical societies (leadership and committee positions), creating connections for Freese and Nichols and technical professionals.
- Performing and directing complex studies and investigations and preparing reports of findings.
- Selecting equipment and material for projects and/or approving manufacturer’s shop drawings of these items.
- Checking calculations of others and sealing drawings and reports.
- Maintaining and expanding technical capabilities to ensure that projects utilize state-of-the-art technology.
Teamwork
- Provides leadership in keeping, obtaining and developing FNI staff.
- Supports development of staff members, especially as it relates to increasing technical expertise and quality control.
Senior Project Management
- Serving as primary client contact, advising and informing them regarding project status and schedule.
- Directing assignments, scheduling work and providing technical oversight for project staff including engineers, technicians, designers, drafters and field representatives.
- Advising Construction Manager of questions or problems which arise during construction.
- Reviewing progress to provide continuity, conformity, and quality.
- Communicating with regulatory agencies, vendors, contractors, partner firms, whose work or services are related to the project and communicating relevant information to the community, or technical groups with interests related to the project.
- Coordinating phases of the work to ensure completion within the established time and budgetary constraints.
Clients
- Build and maintain high-value client relationships, while representing Freese and Nichols with clients and teaming partners.
Qualifications
Required:
- 15+ years of related transmission and utilities experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and strong presentation and sales skills.
- Technical experience including but not limited to water and wastewater design of lift stations, pump stations, transmission lines, coordination of civil/structural/mechanical/electrical design, and construction contract administration and management.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team as well as independently.
- Proven ability to manage a multi-discipline design team and assign tasks to and review work of support disciplines, Assistant Project Managers Project Managers and EITs.
- Proven ability to build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with clients, both internal and external, as well as representatives of local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
