Job Details
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of bi-weekly and monthly payroll for employees and loan officers across multiple states. This role requires expertise in commission-based payroll, branch P&L alignment, and compliance with state and federal payroll regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with a strong background in ProLiant payroll software and mortgage payroll structures.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Compliance Oversee and execute bi-weekly and monthly payroll for employees and loan officers. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. Manage payroll deductions, benefits contributions, and garnishments. Serve as the primary administrator for ProLiant, handling system updates, troubleshooting, and optimizing workflows.
Loan Officer (LO) Commissions & Branch P&Ls Accurately calculate and process LO commissions based on company compensation plans. Collaborate with branch managers to align payroll with branch P&L statements. Maintain accurate commission tracking and reporting to support financial planning.
Payroll System Management & Reporting Oversee and maintain ProLiant payroll software, ensuring system integrity and efficiency. Implement updates reflecting changes in compensation structures, tax rates, and benefits deductions. Generate and analyze payroll reports for finance, HR, and executive leadership. Reconcile payroll accounts with the general ledger and financial statements.
Process Improvement & Employee Support Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve accuracy. Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries, including tax withholdings, direct deposits, and earnings statements. Assist with audits and regulatory reporting as required.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience & Industry Knowledge 3–5 years of payroll experience within the mortgage industry is required. Expertise in loan officer commissions, branch P&Ls, and multi-state payroll processing.
Technical Skills Proficiency in ProLiant payroll software (or similar payroll systems). Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations, FLSA compliance, and payroll tax laws. Experience with 401(k) contributions, benefits administration, and incentive-based pay structures.
Education & Additional Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred but not required. Experience in mid-sized independent mortgage banking environments is a plus. Familiarity with expense tracking for loan officers and bonus structures. Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with HR, finance, and branch managers.
