Job Description

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. To do this, we start with our own community by fostering a respectful and diverse organization where every voice is heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to our shared success.

We are seeking a Corporate Communications Manager to build our company’s reputation, telling the Lyft story to the world through traditional, new, and emerging media. In this role, you’ll contribute to every phase of the storytelling process, including strategic planning, proactive media engagement, and tactical execution of our communications strategies. Successful candidates will be able to craft a narrative from data and stories they uncover, and have experience working with media and influencers. Ideally, you’ll have previous experience managing projects and supporting high-visibility company announcements, and are comfortable building relationships and collaborating with our teammates in other areas of the business.

The ideal candidate for this role will also be comfortable navigating ambiguity and switching gears quickly, jumping into reactive issues as needed. The Corporate Communications Manager will work with the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications to manage corporate reputation through response work with national and local media.

This is an opportunity to join a creative, collaborative team of problem-solvers and help tell the next chapter of the Lyft story. The role reports to the Director of Corporate Communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive proactive corporate announcements from strategy to execution, working cross-functionally to ensure compelling framing and secure media coverage of company news.
  • Own and maintain our corporate messaging library, incorporating the latest data, framing, and product updates.
  • Organize and maintain a list of regular beat reporters, taking ownership of relationships with local media contacts.
  • Work closely with peers on the external (and internal) communications team to ensure integrated planning and execution.
  • Serve as a company spokesperson on high-stakes and high-profile issues.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Communications Manager to support media relations on reactive issues across the United States and Canada, including drafting statements/responses and providing background information to help reporters understand Lyft’s policies, features, and positions on safety.
  • Partner with the corporate, product, and consumer communications teams to create pitches relating to advance Lyft’s overall narrative.
  • Provide strategic communication support to senior executives, including preparing talking points and other key communications to effectively represent the company in public forums.
  • Work in partnership with functions across the company - including operations, legal/compliance, insurance, product, and customer experience - to ensure stories are reported accurately.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of communications experience.
  • Demonstrated focus on corporate communications at large companies.
  • Ability to fluidly navigate between strategy and execution (can develop high-level strategic plans and also ensure high-quality execution).
  • Proven success building strategic communications plans across external channels including owned, earned, social, and emerging media.
  • Unusually strong writing and business communication skills.
  • A track record of building strong relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience working directly with national and local media to shape stories proactively and reactively.

Benefits:

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled.
  • Mental health benefits.
  • Family building benefits.
  • Child care and pet benefits.
  • 401(k) plan to help save for your future.
  • In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have discretionary paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off.
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Subsidized commuter benefits.
  • Lyft Pink - Lyft team members get an exclusive opportunity to test new benefits of our Ridership Program.
