JK Executive Strategies has partnered exclusively with Sydor Technologies in search of a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer to join the team. Sydor offers cutting-edge technology and comprehensive imaging and measurement solutions to a wide variety of critical applications in energy, defense, and research to customers worldwide. Sydor’s Advanced Instrumentation product line includes high speed X-Ray detectors, array detectors, optical gating & timing systems and ultra-fast optical and x-ray framing cameras. Many of these solutions are used by national and university research laboratories in fields such as fusion energy, high power laser optics, and ultra-fast UV and X-Ray imaging.
This position will be responsible for the design and development of analog, digital and FPGA based circuitry. Circuit design needs vary based on project and can include the following:
- High speed digital circuitry utilizing LVDS, PECL, LVPECL and CML
- Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) design, primarily low voltage and high current
- High speed analog design utilizing both discrete and integrated circuitry
- Communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, I2C, and SPI
- FPGA and associated hardware designs utilizing Altera and AMD / Xilinx FPGAs
The Sr. Electrical Design Engineer will work closely with a small team of engineers and technicians to support electrical design for new and existing products. Tasks will vary based on projects assigned and current workload, but will include activities such as circuit design, prototype verification, hand building PCBs, customer interaction and other duties as required to meet project milestones.
Responsibilities:
- Define the architecture required to meet the design specifications.
- Perform electrical design of digital and analog circuitry by identifying components, creating circuit designs, checking part availability, and verifying the design.
- Capture schematics using design software such as Altium, OrCAD and KiCAD.
- Layout of PCBs up to 8 layers. For more complex designs, work with outside layout providers to ensure all layout constraints are met in the final PCB design.
- Participate in project status reviews, specification development and other project activities.
- Hands on lab work to debug prototypes, perform system integration, validation testing and other related activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- Altera or AMD / Xilinx FPGA experience, including VHDL programming.
- Experience with coding tools on both Windows and Linux, such as Visual Studio Code and Git.
- 7 + years of experience of demonstrated design and development experience.
- Experience in product development with a strong background in analog, digital and mixed signal electronics.
- Understand basic design principles of mechanical design.
- Experience with at least one programming language such as C/C++ or Python, specifically regarding hardware interfacing.
- Design with schematic capture and PCB layout software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet project needs with minimal supervision.
- Work will be performed in a team-centric environment, must be able to work well as part of a small agile team.
- Computer Skills: Intermediate Word and Excel, basic PowerPoint.
Salary Range: $98K - $115K + bonus
