Job Description
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelors (BS) or Masters (MS) in Safety, Chemistry, Engineering or related field experience
• 5 years’ experience in engineering or science discipline with 3- year direct experience managing HSE compliance programs preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Thorough knowledge of Cal/OSHA and general working knowledge of DTSC and EPA regulations required
• Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician, Associate Safety Professional, or other professional certification a plus
• Experience in dealing with multiple functional groups at a single location, with emphasis on laboratory, field, greenhouse and office environments
• Team player both within HSE and broadly across multifunctional groups
• Demonstrated communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means
• Demonstrated decision-making ability & problem-solving skills. Detail-orientated & the ability to work on multiple projects with a sense of urgency
• Strong computer skills and expertise with Microsoft Products
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is a HSE Safety Professional who assists in the development, implementation and management of comprehensive safety programs that address personnel safety and property protection in compliance with OSHA and corporate requirements for our San Juan Bautista Vegetable R&D station. This position will work directly with multidisciplinary teams and other non-HSE staff within departments/functions on site to develop and execute safety programs in accordance with federal, state, local regulations and internal requirements to drive continual improvement and an incident and injury free work environment. This position performs technical and small to medium scale HSE reviews for projects and equipment; and supports HSE program development (such as personal protective equipment, chemical storage and hazardous waste, job safety analysis, Worker Protection Standards, management of change, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Safety program management including the development, implementation and evaluation of compliance programs and internal policies
• Work closely with employees and contractors to assure the safe and effective operation of research facilities to include performing HSE audits, lab exits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, development and tracking of corrective actions
• Facilities project safety (HSE reviews, review of construction documents, planning, construction and renovation projects and work in progress audits) for small and medium scale projects
• Participation in incident response activities as a member and site emergency response team
• Ensure site maintains license to operate by maintaining site specific environmental permitting requirement
• Engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with air, water, waste, and other relevant environmental programs for all current and planned processes
• Partner with Security in the development and implementation of site-specific emergency action plans and procedures to assure business continuity and the health and safety of site employees
• Maintain HSE recordkeeping systems required to document compliance with all Bayer & legal requirements
