Job Title: Senior Tax Manager – Financial Services

Job Overview:

The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for managing tax compliance and reporting, advising on tax planning strategies, and ensuring that the organization complies with all tax laws and regulations in the financial services sector. This role involves leading a team of tax professionals and collaborating with other departments to provide strategic tax advice on complex issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance & Reporting:

  1. Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and international tax returns for the company.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with relevant tax regulations.
  3. Lead the tax provision process, including the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions (ASC 740).
  4. Monitor and maintain tax records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  5. Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax efficiency for the company.
  6. Advise senior leadership on tax implications of business decisions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and investments.
  7. Work closely with other departments (finance, legal, operations) to identify tax-efficient structures and transactions.
  8. Evaluate and provide recommendations on new or changing tax legislation and its impact on the financial services business.

Managing Tax Audits & Disputes:

  1. Lead and coordinate responses to tax audits, disputes, and inquiries from tax authorities.
  2. Collaborate with external tax advisors, including tax attorneys and consultants, to manage complex tax issues.
  3. Develop and implement strategies for tax dispute resolution, including negotiating with tax authorities as necessary.
  4. Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  5. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment within the tax department.
  6. Ensure the team stays updated on changes to tax laws and industry best practices.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  1. Partner with legal, finance, accounting, and business units to ensure tax considerations are integrated into the company’s operations.
  2. Provide tax advice and support for cross-border transactions, business expansions, and corporate restructuring.
  3. Establish and maintain internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  4. Identify potential tax risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s in Taxation or CPA preferred.
  2. At least 8-10 years of experience in tax, with a focus on private debt, private equity.
  3. Extensive fund partnership accounting and reporting acumen is required.
  4. Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Excel is necessary.
  7. A strong and capable understanding of GAAP fund accounting and investment valuation is a necessity.
