Job Summary:
The Solutions Designer position is a cross-functional role responsible for the analysis and design of remodel and retrofit projects for lighting and lighting controls for interior and exterior projects. The Solutions Designer interacts with Project Auditors, Solutions Managers, Material Sourcing, and Project Managers on job specific designs, as well as, the Sales team during customer development and formal proposal stages. This Solutions Designer will understand and implement customers' requirements as well as communicate with all involved parties to produce Best-In-Class solutions and designs. The contributions the Solutions Designer makes as a member of the Solutions Management team is critical for us to realize our company goals and vaulting EMC beyond our competition.
Essential Job Functions:
Manage design timelines and maintain quality, along with exceeding overall customer expectations
Coordinate with auditors to ensure documentation provided is complete and sufficient for the purpose of completing a lighting design
Support RFP efforts from design perspective
Analyze and evaluate information gathered during the audit phase to understand the effectiveness of the customer's current lighting system
Design cost effective, energy saving, and Best-In-Class solutions which best satisfy the illumination requirements of the different environments within a customers' facilities.
Coordinate with the Rebate department to determine the available utility or state energy program-sponsored rebates for generation of the cost payback analysis for the customer
Provide existing and as-build AutoCAD drawings, AGI32 calculations, development drawings, and install plans to internal EMC teams, labor partners, and customers, as required
Proactive identification and resolution of issues as they arise
Provide technical design sales support including presentations at customer meetings, as required
Execute design package hand-off of project to Solutions Managers and provide support to ensure successful project implementation
Research new lighting other energy savings technologies to implement new products into our design offerings
Attend trade shows, supplier training, and online training classes to advance knowledge of products and foster supplier relationships
Obtain industry recognized certifications as necessary
Assist auditors on audits when technical audit assistance is required
Become a cross-functional resource on the Solutions Management team to assist in building quotes and proposals or conducting lighting audits as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication

Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), AGi32 and various CAD programs
Detail-orientated, high degree of accuracy and ability to multi-task
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and manage time well
Education:
Four-year degree in
Engineering, Environmental Design or
related degree
Experience Required:
Understanding and application of the energy demand and maintenance requirements of various existing lighting systems
Understanding and application of the demands and requirements of proposed retrofit solutions
Knowledge of IES Standards, light color, color rendering, lumen maintenance, lamp life, ballast factors, system wattage and efficacy of the various systems
Familiar with Energy Star and Design Lights Consortium lists and requirements
Ability to demonstrate the impacts of utility rates, rebates, system wattage and operating hours in the design and development of proposed alternatives
Knowledge of the environmental, economic and quality advantages of various lighting alternatives
Experience Preferred/Other Qualifications:
General understanding of the requirements of electrical installations, circuitry, load, voltage and familiarity with electrical codes
