Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Libertyville, IL 60048
Job Type: Full-Time
Shift: 5:30 AM - 3:00 PM (Monday - Friday, with occasional Saturday work, about once a month)
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Supervisor to lead our team in ensuring the smooth operation of production equipment and our toolroom. This hands-on role requires a dynamic leader who can drive efficiency, solve complex issues, and maintain high operational standards in a metal stamping facility.
As the Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our maintenance and toolroom departments, managing a team of 17 direct reports across 3 shifts. You will be responsible for ensuring all production equipment (including 70 presses) is running efficiently while focusing on preventative maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and lead a team of 10 maintenance technicians and 7 toolroom staff to maintain and repair equipment and machinery across 3 shifts.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program (currently in the process of being established).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with presses and production equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Perform hands-on leadership in resolving complex issues, managing plant-wide repairs, and coordinating planned shutdowns or startups.
- Manage the maintenance budget and ensure cost-effective management of resources.
- Inspect machinery and equipment regularly to identify potential problems and implement timely solutions.
- Support the improvement of facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, building electricity, and addressing roof leaks or other infrastructure issues.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure maintenance tasks align with production needs and timelines.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on process enhancements and machine uptime.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, upgrades, and preventative measures.
- Maintain strong safety protocols and ensure all maintenance work adheres to safety standards.
- Utilize your technical expertise and leadership skills to maintain older machinery that requires extra attention.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Solid experience in metal stamping and knowledge of press equipment.
- Hands-on leadership with a “whatever it takes” mentality to ensure machines and equipment are well-maintained.
- Proven track record of making improvements to plant standards, including optimizing maintenance tasks and troubleshooting procedures.
- Comfortable and effective working in a unionized environment (you will be NON-union).
- Experience managing a team of skilled trades employees, including maintenance technicians, toolroom staff, millwrights, machine repair specialists, and electricians.
Preferred:
- Experience creating or improving a preventative maintenance program (this is a key area of focus for the role).
- Background in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Comfortable working with older equipment that requires extra maintenance.
- Technical degree in a related field is a plus.
