Physician Assistant - Emergency Medicine (Staff Relief/Pool - Variable shifts)


Job Summary The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) functions independently within parameters delineated by their supervising physician. The Emergency Medicine PA will assess, diagnose, and manage episodic illnesses, injuries and acute exacerbations of chronic diseases of the Pediatric Patient. Responsibilities include; performing history and physical examination, ordering and interpreting radiological and laboratory test results, treating minor injuries, prescribing medications, documenting patient care services within EMR and departmental records, and performing procedures within scope of practice and demonstrating through competency. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine PA reports to the Pediatric Emergency Medicine APP Manager. Job Specific Duties * Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physical examinations. * Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic tests with education and experience. * Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency and identified in delineation of privileges. * Participates in performance improvement activities, quality initiatives and research. * Initiates emergency resuscitation and stabilization as necessary. * Works effectively with physicians and other health professionals as a member or leader of a health care team or other professional group. * Precepts new APP hires and APP students. * Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a higher quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth. * Completes clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Minimum Job Requirements * Master's Degree of an approved program leading to eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant * Current Florida PA license - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * Certification by The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCPAA) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * American Heart Association (AHA) BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * American Heart Association (AHA) PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * Level II Background Check Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Pediatric Urgent Care or Pediatric Emergency Department experience preferred. * Able to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights with varying shifts. * Able to work independently and collaboratively with other disciplines using discretion and independent judgement. * Able to recognize subtle changes in patient's condition and to adapt care based on those changes. * Able to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions. * Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. * Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. * Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
