The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is seeking to add a full-time electrophysiologist to our Cardiology Division.

Position Background:

Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona commensurate with clinical experience and academic achievement to facilitate teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.

There is an opportunity to participate in interpretation of cardiac ultrasound, nuclear cardiology imaging, cardiac CT, and cardiac MR, depending upon training and interest. All our division members participate in outpatient clinic services. We have on-boarded an experienced cardiology nurse practitioner to support the electrophysiology service.

Duties:

  • Commitment to excellence in patient care and an interest in teaching are essential. A record of contributions to the scientific literature is preferred
  • Willingness to participate in clinical trials
  • Active participation in quality improvement activities and complying with the rules and regulations of the agency, facility, and department
  • Support a satisfactory process for supervision and training of fellows, residents, and medical students from The University of Arizona College of Medicine rotating through the Cardiology Division.

Other duties Include:

  • Testing for, diagnosing, and treating abnormal heart rhythms
  • Prescribing medication or making lifestyle recommendations
  • Making diagnostics based on a patient s medical history and recommending an appropriate treatment plan
  • Working with other medical staff in the process
  • Performing catheter ablations to treat heart rhythm problems

Requirements:

  • US Citizen
  • Must have an active and unrestricted license in any of the US States
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine
  • Residency Training in any of the US States
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Current ACLS and BLS Certification
  • Work Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, Mohs surgery and neurosurgery. It has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award. We are in a growth area for the VA. Consequently, the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility; we expect to start construction on a new bed tower in December 2024.
