Overview:
The Everett, Washington (WA) is looking for a Senior Planner to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact in multiple communities and contribute to the development of long-range, comprehensive planning projects. As a Senior Planner, you will have the chance to work with a diverse range of clients, both in the public and private sectors. You will be responsible for managing client interactions, building strong relationships, and providing expert advice to meet their needs. Additionally, you will lead and support various planning projects, ensuring compliance with the Growth Management Act (GMA) and coordinating with stakeholders, engineers, architects, and government agencies.
Responsibilities:
One of the key aspects of this role is the opportunity to mentor and supervise less experienced professionals, providing guidance and training. You will also stay updated on industry trends and regulations, keeping abreast of changes in planning law, regulations, and policies.
- Foster strong and meaningful client relationships by understanding their needs and providing expert advice
- Take the lead in managing and supporting long-range and comprehensive planning projects in compliance with the Growth Management Act (GMA)
- Drive code updates focused on development regulations to ensure that planning projects are up-to-date and effective
- Navigate the complexities of the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) for comprehensive planning and code projects
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including engineers, architects, and government agencies, to coordinate project teams and ensure project objectives are met
- Delegate tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to ensure successful project completion
- Utilize your exceptional project management skills to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Take on the role of a mentor and supervisor, overseeing the work of less experienced professionals and providing guidance and training
- Prepare concise reports that effectively summarize planning recommendations and findings for appointed and elected bodies
- Foster a collaborative approach by working closely with our internal planning team and partners to ensure a coordinated and cohesive project approach
- Strong desire to grow and eventually lead a Planning Team
- Our Emerging Practice Builders manage their projects profitably, transition work to qualified staff, grow and mentor staff, and act as a positive leader and mentor
- The successful candidate will be given a great deal of autonomy to lead, direct, and grow their business

Qualifications:
- Degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Urban and Regional Planning (or other degree applicable to the planning field)
- 8+ years experience in long-range, comprehensive planning in Washington, preferably in a consulting or professional services environment
- American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) Licensure Preferred
- Knowledge of State of Washington land use, zoning, and environmental planning regulations and codes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and team members
- Proven experience in managing client relationships and delivering exceptional customer service
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to delegate work and provide guidance to others
- Proficiency in planning software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide innovative solutions
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
- Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team

Salary Range:
- $130,000 - $180,000
- Eligible for Performance Based Bonus Compensation
