Responsibilities Functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction and specimen culture collection instruction Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment. Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines. Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider. Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols. Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity. Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport. Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned. Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport. Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned. Answers laboratory department phone calls. Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately. Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner. Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills. Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient. QualificationsJob Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent Preferred Job Requirements: Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience Certification from nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to: National Heathcareer Association - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA) American Society for Clinical Pathology - Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP) American Medical Technologists - Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT) National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT) American Certification Agency - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA) Experience working in the clinical setting
