Certified Nurse Aide - Medication Aide is a primary caregiver in assisted living responsible for administering medications in accordance with Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) Regulations and Westminster Canterbury Richmond policies while providing assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs).
Shift Details: PRN; As needed (Various 8 hour shifts)
Requirements The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications: - Administer medications to ensure residents receive medications as prescribed by physician and document accordingly
- Assist residents with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating/feeding, bowel control, bladder control) and document the care provided promoting a resident's independence and ensuring appropriate hygiene
- Assist residents with IADLs (meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, money management) supporting a resident's independence and quality of life
- Assist with serving meals in the dining room to provide adequate nutrition and a resident-desirable social experience
- Monitor and document resident's vital signs, intake/output, weights and blood sugars as necessary and report findings to nurse in charge for appropriate follow up care
- Adhere to the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and report concerns or suggestions for changes/additions to nurse in charge and/or manager
- Observe residents for changes in mood, behavior, affect, cognition and physical changes and report to nurse in charge and/or manager immediately
- Document accurately, communicate effectively, maintain resident safety and report any significant changes to appropriate nurse
- Transport residents to various appointments and activities ensuring appropriate medical and personal commitments are met
- Adhere to change of shift procedure, which includes narcotic count, to meet regulatory compliance and communication regarding pertinent resident information to ensure residents receive continuity of care
- Maintain appropriate VDSS educational compliance
- Document care provided using medical documentation systems
- Ability to walk, stand, reach, bend and squat frequently, lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance.
- Ability to walk, reach, bend and stoop frequently and stand for up to 4 hours at a time
- Ability to push medication carts and occupied wheelchairs
- Must be caring and compassionate with a willingness to help others
- Able to work within a team to achieve common goals
- Knowledge of validation therapy
- Knowledge of a continuing care retirement community (CCRC)
- Knowledge of Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) Assisted Living Regulations
Required Education and Experience: - High School Diploma or equivalency
- Certificate to practice as a Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Virginia in good standing
- Registered to practice as a Medication Aide in the State of Virginia in good standing
Desired Education and Experience: - One-year experience administering medications in assisted living facility
- Direct experience working with geriatric or cognitively impaired residents
- Dementia training
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certification
