There is a reason at Capital One we say “Risk Management is the business.” As a Director of Software Engineering within Risk Technology, you’ll be tasked with building new solutions that align to our mission of transforming risk management with technology. Our data pipelines are responsible for monitoring, managing, and transforming data across the entire bank, processing billions of records every day in real time. Our internal tools are used by thousands of internal risk managers and investigators to detect, monitor, and resolve risks. And our models leverage machine learning to surface the most critical risks across the bank. You will: Lead, manage and empower multiple teams of Software, Data, and ML Engineers. Hire and grow world class engineering talent, providing mentoring to guide the professional and technical development of your team. Build systems that adhere to highest engineering quality standards, applying your vision and expertise to set the bar on resiliency, scalability, efficiency, and performance. Bring a passion to stay on top of emerging technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community. Partner with product managers and our business teams to design solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our risk management customers. Build systems that have an immediate impact on our business and on our customers. Ship early and often to production, bringing business value to our stakeholders quickly while failing fast and iterating when we miss the mark. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree At least 7 years’ experience in software development At least 5 years’ experience in people management Preferred Qualifications: 9 years experience in Software Engineering or Data Engineering as an individual contributor. Experience in building data applications that leverage distributed technologies (Spark, Flink, Hive) to execute workflows at scale. 5 years experience developing front end applications using modern frameworks (React, Angular). Experience in operating applications using AWS, leveraging services such as Lambda, Fargate, RDS, and Kinesis, employing multi-AZ and multi-region practices to solve for resilency. Experience in developing personalized experiences, leveraging experimentation (A/B testing, multi-armed bandit) to optimize. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Director, Software EngineeringCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
