This position is accountable for performing loading, unloading, and delivery of equipment and supplies to construction and other sites for Orion Marine Construction. Incumbents are responsible for the operation of truck and trailers to deliver equipment and supplies. Typically, they will work closely with the Yard Superintendent and Yard Foremen, Construction Foreman, Dredge crews other skilled or semi-skilled crafts persons at the construction site.
The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity .
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as assigned by the Yard Superintendent/Foreman to ensure the successful completion of on-going deliveries of equipment and or supplies.
- Receives written or oral instructions from supervisor regarding deliveries.
- Operates a semi tractor-trailer safely, obtaining required permits for oversize/weight loads. Secure loads properly on the trailer, free of objects that will fall off.
- Moves hand levers and depresses pedals to operate the truck, and trailer.
- Utilizes basic skills as an operator to load heavy equipment on the trailer and secure properly.
- Observes markings on the ground, hand signals, or grade stakes to when operating machine.
- Qualifies and safely operates and maintains equipment.
- Maneuvers and positions smoothly, in a safe manner.
- Performs maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, oiling, and fueling of assigned equipment.
- Performs daily safety inspection of equipment and recognizes possible problem areas.
- Works closely with Superintendent, Foreman, and other skilled craft persons to complete current projects in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives and training that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal. Company regulations and improve existing Company programs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Requires a minimum of 2 years Semi-trailer truck driving experience with CDL and Hazmat certification experience with heavy equipment.
The incumbent must:
- Understand the basic functions and operations of various types of earth moving equipment.
- Must possess a CDL, Hazmat.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, safety toed boots, personal flotation devices (PFD's) or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
Must be qualified and physically able to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
In addition, Truck Drivers must also be capable of:
- Visually seeing operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
- Standing, stooping kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
- Performing repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in performance of work.
- Detecting visual and audible changes in the equipment being operated.
- Working in confined spaces.
- Working at elevated heights.
- Lifting alone 50 lb. objects as required.
- Adapting to extreme temperature changes.
- Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure.
- Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
