Position/Title: Special Education Paraprofessional - Level I Reports To: Classroom Teacher /Special Education Director Primary Function: The paraprofessional is a support staff position working under the supervision of the classroom teacher(s). The paraprofessional has some decision-making authority limited and regulated by board policy and state law.
Qualifications: Qualifications: Meet one of the following requirements:
1. Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty (60) semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
*Applicants will be asked to provide a transcript or copy of the high school diploma for licensure. If attended college, a college transcript will be need for licensure instead of the high school diploma.

- Shall exhibit a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students and the public.
- Conduct small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
- Assist with supervision of students.
- Assist with student assessment, grading work and tests, and collecting data on student progress.
- Participate in class field trips.
- Assist with routine record keeping.
- Assist with the preparation of materials for instruction (including copying/duplicating of materials, construction of displays/bulletin boards, learning centers and manipulatives).
- Locate, operate and return needed equipment.
- Assist with classroom housekeeping.
- Assist in the ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials.
- Assist with school wide supervision, such as loading/unloading buses.
- Assist special needs children on the bus as a bus paraprofessional/monitor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
