Medication Aide
North Platte Premier Estates
POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Is responsible to provide each assigned resident with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the residents assessment and plan of care, and as directed by the supervisor. Will deliver resident care to age ranges of residents from adults to geriatrics and assist with promoting a compassionate physical and psychosocial environment for residents.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Arboreta Certified Medication Aide (CMA), essential duties and responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and administer medications to residents in accordance with state regulations. (Does not include injectable medications)
  • Administer medications according to the 5 rights -right medication, right person, right time, right dose, and by the right route.
  • Be responsible and knowledgeable regarding what medications are given, reasons the medications are given, expected results and possible side effects.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality while preparing, administering and documenting medications.
  • Maintain hygiene and current accepted standards for infection control.
  • Document accurately the provisions of medication(s). Record must reflect identification of recipient, name of medication, identification of person providing the medication and must include date, time, dosage and route of medication.
  • Practice safety in application of medications.
  • Medication must be stored in a location that is protected from theft and inappropriate use in accordance with manufacturer or pharmacist instructions.
  • Comply with the resident's right to refuse medications, do not force the recipient to take medications, use appropriate measures to encourage taking of medications and document completely if medication is refused.
  • Report all medication errors immediately upon discovery to resident/responsible party, physician, and supervisor.
  • Must comprehend written or oral directions.
  • Medication Administration Competency
  • Participates in an initial competency evaluation prior to administering medications and meets competency requirements.
  • Participates in annual competency evaluations and meets ongoing competency requirements.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Qualifications including minimum skills, experience and education required include:
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile residents, family members, personnel and visitors within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 40-60 pounds to a minimum height of waist height and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 20 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
