Job Description: Southampton County Public Schools is seeking a caring and motivated
Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in a classroom setting. The Paraprofessional will work under the guidance of a licensed Special Education Teacher to assist in the delivery of instruction and provide personalized support to students with diverse learning needs. Key Responsibilities: - Assist Special Education teachers with implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and delivering tailored instruction to students.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas.
- Help modify assignments and classroom materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Assist with classroom management, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.
- Support students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, if necessary.
- Monitor and document student progress and communicate observations with teachers.
- Encourage student independence and help foster positive relationships among peers.
- Attend training and professional development sessions as required.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college credits preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desired.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with students who have diverse needs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and other staff members.
- Must pass a background check and meet other state and district requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with students with disabilities, such as autism, learning disabilities, or behavioral disorders.
- Familiarity with classroom technology, assistive devices, or adaptive tools.
