Job Description

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:nnUnder general supervision, is responsible for transporting staff, clients, and supplies in a safe and orderly fashion by agency vehicle to appointments, other agency sites, etc. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.nnDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:nnTransports clients in agency vehicle to other program sites, recreational outings, appointments, public transportation, out in community, etc.nnPicks up and delivers supplies from vendors, other sites, etc. as needed.nnTransports staff to other sites as needed.nnObserves all traffic and vehicle operation laws towards to ensure safe and legal operation of agency vehicles.nnMaintains and updates Vehicle Trip Logs on a daily basis.nnFollows agency vehicle emergency procedures in case of an accident.nnInspects vehicles prior to use in order following agency vehicle checklist to ensure that they are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition.nnDemonstrates a professional standard of conduct in representing agency out in community.nnDrives to and from agency sites to pick up items i.e. mail as requested.nnReinforces agency policy in using vehicle safety/seat belts.nnMaintains vehicle by ensuring regular preventive maintenance work is performed.nnEnsures that vehicle is cleaned and fueled on a regular basis.nnPerforms other duties as requested.nnREQUIREMENTS:nnRequired Education, Experience and Skills:nnHigh School Graduate or GED.nnMust have at least Five years prior driving experience, preferably with 15 passenger transportation vehicles.nnWillingness to transport clients as needed.nnClean NYS Driver's License.nnExperience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.nnLicense/Certification Required:nnValid New York State Driver’s LicensennPreferred Education, License/Certification, Experience and/or Skills:nnKnowledge of DHS regulations and systems (CARES} a plus.nnGood interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staffnnMust be able to pass appropriate driving background check in LENSnnKnowledge of techniques for identifying and preventing potentially violent behavior, including crisis management techniques.nnKnowledge of Clients Rights and Code of Conduct in NYC Shelter Systems.
