Position Summary: The P&A Rig Derrick Hand plays a crucial role in supporting the rig operations during plugging and abandonment (P&A) of oil and gas wells. This position involves working at heights in the derrick and requires a strong understanding of rig operations, safety protocols, and well control procedures.
Key Roles / Responsibilities: - Works at heights in the derrick to guide and manage the movement of drill pipes and equipment during well plugging and abandonment.
- Assists in rigging up and rigging down operations, ensuring all equipment is properly secured and positioned.
- Handles and stacks drill pipes, tubulars, and other materials used in the well abandonment process.
- Supports the plugging process by ensuring proper handling and placement of cement, plugs, and other materials in the wellbore.
- Collaborates with the rig crew to monitor and control well pressure and fluid levels during the plugging operation.
- Follows all safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to fall protection measures.
- Conducts regular safety inspections of the derrick and associated equipment to identify and address any hazards.
- Participates in safety meetings, drills, and training sessions as required.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspections on derrick equipment, including blocks, lines, and other components.
- Reports any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the Rig Manager or Rig Supervisor for prompt resolution.
- Works closely with other members of the rig crew to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Communicates effectively with the Rig Manager, Floor hands, and other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications: - Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Derrick Hand in oil and gas operations, preferably in P&A or similar well servicing activities.
- Valid Well Control Certification (IWCF or equivalent).
- H2S Safety Training.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Strong understanding of well control principles and procedures.
- Proficiency in handling and operating derrick equipment and tools.
- Ability to work at heights and in challenging environments.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Working Conditions: - Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
