Job Description

Stephens & Smith Construction Trucking Division is currently seeking a full-time dynamic and motivated Class A CDL driver to join our team. CDL Driver has the responsibility for hauling materials to residential and/or commercial job sites. Your expertise must demonstrate leadership by setting an example in adhering to Safety and Human Resources policies and practices is expected. Upholding Stephens & Smith's mission statement, work ethics, and maintaining quality, safety, and human resources standards is a requirement.nnKey Responsibilities (Includes, but not limited to):nnAdheres to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe driving record.nnProvides assistance with the loading and unloading of freight, as needed.nnPerforms daily inspections, both before and after trips, to ensure the truck and equipment are in proper working order.nnMaintains precise and comprehensive documentation, including the driver's log, in accordance with the rules and regulations set by the State DMV/DOT.nnPrecisely inputs order and delivery information into electronic devices such as tablets, phones, and/or computers.nnMust consistently maintain a clean driving record, adhering to all DOT regulations and remaining in compliance at all times.nnPreferred Talents:nnHaving a basic understanding of truck mechanics and the ability to perform minor repairs or troubleshoot mechanical issues can be beneficial.nnProficiency in reading maps, using GPS systems, and navigating unfamiliar routes can help drivers efficiently plan and execute their trips.nnStrong customer service abilities, including professionalism, communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.nnBeing able to think critically and adapt to unexpected situations on the road, such as traffic congestion or detours, can contribute to successful and efficient deliveries.nnEffective time management skills, including the ability to plan routes, prioritize tasks, and meet delivery schedules, can enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.nnDemonstrating a strong work ethic, including reliability, punctuality, and dedication to completing tasksnnOperating a forklift to load and unload palletized material on jobsites, warehouses and flatbed trailernnUse of E log system for recording DOT drive time every home nightnnPhysical DemandsnnDefinitions: Based on 8-12 hours per daynnContinually 70-100% Regularly 50-70%nnPeriodically 20-50% Rarely – less than 20%nnContinually maintain proper posture and body alignment to minimize discomfort and prevent fatigue.nnContinually traveling in all weather conditions.nnContinually being able to sit.nnRegularly lift and carry cargo. This can include maneuvering pallets, boxes, or other items using proper lifting techniques.nnRegularly climbing in and out of the truck cab, onto the trailer, or accessing cargo areas may be necessary for securing loads, performing inspections, or making deliveries.nnContinually able to work eight to ten hour work days each week and occasional weekends.nnPeriodically conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, which involve walking around the vehicle to check tires, lights, brakes, and other components.nnPeriodically handle paperwork, use tools for securing cargo, or operate equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, or hand trucksnnRarely encounter physical exertion, such as pushing or pulling heavy loads or manually adjusting equipment or trailer components.nnRarely encounter emergency situations that require physical actions, such as assisting in accident response or performing basic first aid.nnQualifications:nnA minimum age requirement of 18 years must be met.nnClass A CDL required.nnAt least one year of experience driving with a Class A CDL required.nnProficiency in basic computer skills is necessary, including the ability to navigate and operate a smartphone and/or tablet.nnFamiliarity with weight, volume, and distance measurements is required.nnKnowledge and understanding of all DOT rules and regulations.nnKnowledge in truck maintenancennA favorable driving record (Motor Vehicle Record or MVR) is necessary.nnMust be able to drive a manual transmission.
