Job Description

Company Description

VIC Foundry develops technologies in the life sciences (medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, analytical tools, etc.) that have a potentially substantial impact and commercial promise but have too many unknowns to acquire private equity investment initially. Instead of private equity, VIC Foundry further develops promising technologies by accessing grant funding such as SBIR and STTR. A new company is formed after technology advances enough to warrant private equity investment. VIC Foundry is one element of the VIC innovation ecosystem that includes VIC Technology Venture Development, VIC Investor Network, VIC Venture Fund , and various associated programs such as VIC Fellows and VIN Partners .

Role Description

The Principal Scientist will be responsible for developing and implementing a synthesis and purification process for a functionalized biological polymer and performing testing to support FDA clearance of a product.

In addition, this person will be a part of VIC’s Opportunity Assessment team and will evaluate new technologies for their potential to serve as the foundation of a new company or new VIC Foundry project.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement manufacturing methods for synthesis and purification of a modified biological polymer.
  • Establish and execute test plan to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of our regenerative dental material.
  • Maintain record keeping in compliance with government regulations and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of Quality Process and the Quality Management System as it pertains to this and other positions where interaction occurs.
  • Participate in the assessment of new project opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position will be funded by an NIH Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research. The candidate and VIC Foundry will develop a career development plan and research plan consistent with the goals of this program.

Start date: November 1, 2024 (flexible)

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field (B.S. or M.S. may be considered with additional experience).
  • Must be eligible for the NIH Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research, which requires candidates to be a US citizen or permanent resident and to enhance workforce diversity as described here:
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete projects independently in a timely manner.
  • Experience with chemical synthesis, purification, and analysis (such as rheology, NMR, FTIR, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with medical device development preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Solidworks preferred.
