Our Erie Campus EHS team is comprised of experienced professionals with both broad and deep subject matter expertise. We hold environmental permits for air, water and wastewater facilities. This team works with both internal and external stakeholders to drive compliant and sustainable operations following the values of People First, Expand the Possible, Embrace Diversity, and One Wabtec.
As a member of the Environmental Health & Safety organization, you will be responsible for providing technical direction to customers and partners on a diverse portfolio of projects and initiatives addressing environmental compliance and stewardship. Candidates should have experience working within a regulatory compliance function, along with expertise in program development and implementation. The ideal candidate is a “roll up your sleeves and get it done” member of the team with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, partners, and regulators. The candidate must be analytical and work independently, manage deadlines, have strong research, communication and analytical skills, be thoughtful and strategic, and enjoy working in a dynamic matrix environment.
What skills are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental-related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 6 years of environmental-related compliance experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with applicable US and Pennsylvania environmental regulations across numerous environmental media (Title V Air Regulations, RCRA, PA Residual Waste Regulations, NPDES, TSCA, DOT, etc.).
- Able to communicate complex situations and issues clearly and persuasively.
- Proficiency in all applicable software platforms (e.g., Benchmark Gensuite, MAXIMO, MS Office).
- Able to prioritize competing obligations and requests.
- Provide attention to detail in all work products.
- Bring detail oriented, clear and data-driven approaches to problem solving.
- Manage complex and competing programs and projects from start to finish.
- Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills to include the ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions, compile, and present business reports/correspondence.
- Presentation skills with the ability to speak in public effectively including group presentations and training at all employee levels (hourly operators to vice presidents).
- Strong leadership and coaching skills including conflict resolution and negotiation.
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Desire for continuous learning and skill development.
What will your typical day look like?
- Provide environmental support and guidance to customers and partners to maintain regulatory compliance and further business initiatives.
- Drive performance as a key member of the EHS team through audits, process reviews, and trust-but-verify activities to ensure compliance.
- Foster cooperative and productive working relationships with customers and partners, both internal and external to the business (e.g., operations team, cross functional teams, regulatory agencies).
- Support customers to maximize success of an operationalized environmental program.
- Interpret and communicate regulatory obligations applicable to varied and complex business operating scenarios.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance assurance mechanisms.
- Proactively communicate to business leadership regarding environmental risk and potential risk-mitigations strategies.
- Monitor proposed and upcoming regulations for applicability to the site and when necessary develop plan to ensure compliance on effective date.
- Assist in the on-time delivery of true, accurate, and complete compliance documents, including monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting, and permit applications.
- Promote and model a cooperative and supportive relationship between the environmental team and other EHS functions, including aligning cross-functionally and mentoring and coaching EHS staff and interns.
- Drive standardization by developing and deploying environmental policies, procedures, work practices, etc. and measure compliance.
- Aggressively prioritize work tasks with respect to compliance, business initiatives/requirements, and other requests as appropriate
