Estimator
Responsibilities: As an Estimator, you will work with the Estimating team to complete estimates, and take-offs, solicit quotes from vendors and subcontractors, and prepare and submit accurate proposals promptly. This position requires experience in estimating Underground Utilities and/or Earthwork such as Mass Excavation and Grading for both Public and Private Projects. You must be able to meet deadlines, have excellent organizational skills, and communicate effectively. This position reports directly to the Vice President.
Key Tasks:
? Produce accurate estimates from conceptual, schematic, and final contract drawings.
? Review project plans, specifications, and soil reports.
? Submit pre-bid RFIs to owners/engineers as needed.
? Assess site exposures and construction risks, analyzing costs appropriately.
? Solicit quotes from subcontractors, material suppliers, and trucking, ensuring a minimum of three quotes.
? Review projects with the Senior Estimator, visit project sites, and take photos.
? Attend or delegate Pre-Bid meetings and identify constructability issues.
? Complete accurate take-offs from design plans and bid specifications to determine quantities and pricing.
? Verify current addendums, amendments, and project documents before submission.
? Maintain bid folders, and develop and maintain client relationships.
? Lead job handoff meetings with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Superintendent.
? Review weekly cost reports with the Project Manager to inform future bids.
? Work with the Project Manager to prepare change orders as needed.
Standards:
? Identify all potential general contractors bidding on private work.
? Ensure bid bonds and submittal documents are complete as required.
? Request Manager review of bids before submission.
? Save all bid documents and notify the team of bid results promptly.
? Cultivate and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers for business development.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management and/or Civil Engineering preferred.
? 3+ years of work experience in estimating public and private projects.
? Proficiency in reading blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
? Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
? Experience in the San Francisco market is a plus.
? Proficiency in Bluebeam, AUTOCAD, and AGTEK with 5+ years of experience.
? Experience in the San Francisco Bay Area market is a plus.
