We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Development Counsel to support our legal and compliance needs throughout the development process.
**Position Overview:**
The Development Counsel will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support for all aspects of real estate development, including acquisitions, entitlements, financing, and construction. This role requires a strong understanding of real estate law and regulatory compliance, along with excellent negotiation and communication skills.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Legal Guidance:** Provide expert legal advice on real estate development matters, including land use, zoning, environmental regulations, and construction law.
- **Contract Review:** Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, construction contracts, and financing documents.
- **Due Diligence:** Conduct legal due diligence for property acquisitions and assist in identifying potential risks and liabilities.
- **Regulatory Compliance:** Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations affecting real estate development projects.
- **Entitlements and Permitting:** Manage the entitlement process, including coordinating with local government agencies and stakeholders to secure necessary permits and approvals.
- **Dispute Resolution:** Provide support in the resolution of disputes related to development projects, including mediation and litigation when necessary.
- **Collaboration:** Work closely with internal teams, including project managers, financial analysts, and external consultants, to ensure alignment on legal and business objectives. The Development Counsel will be a direct report to the Chief Legal Officer.
**Qualifications:**
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in Texas and in good standing.
- 5+ years of experience in real estate law, preferably in a development or construction context.
- Strong understanding of zoning, land use, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across teams.
