Job Description
This job aims to provide legal help to victims of domestic violence, focusing on support under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA ). The candidate should know a lot about family law and have three to five years of experience .
Essential Functions
- Interview clients, check their eligibility, and figure out their legal issues, offering advice, referrals, or direct legal help.
- Engage in outreach efforts.
- Represent clients in court and at administrative hearings when needed.
- Provide necessary documents and data as required by supervisors.
- Join case acceptance meetings.
- Attend training to stay updated on legal requirements.
- Maintain office hours, show a strong work ethic, manage time well, and treat clients and staff with respect. Offer helpful feedback to colleagues.
- Set a good example for support staff by promoting hard work and respectful treatment of others.
- Ensure the office is accessible for all clients, including those in rural areas, non-English speakers, and those with disabilities.
- Build good relationships with the community, service providers, and the media by attending and speaking at local meetings as approved by management.
- Stay familiar with FRLS policies and follow guidelines from funders .
- Keep an organized follow-up system for cases.
- Complete other assigned tasks.
Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Florida.
- Knowledge of state and federal court procedures is preferred.
- Understanding of the legal system and a commitment to helping clients.
- Ability to build positive relationships with others.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Efficiently use available resources.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); knowledge of CMS is a plus.
- Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
