Summary
RW Carlstrom is currently seeking an experienced Construction Estimator join our team. Based in Mankato, MN, this is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to deliver timely and precise estimates on project of all sizes and complexities contributing to the successful acquisition of profitable construction projects for RW Carlstrom. Education / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Construction Estimator.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products as well as 2D and 3D estimating software. We currently use Sage Products for estimating and e-takeoff.
- Ability to interact with Owners, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors and Suppliers.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong planning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Individual must be collaborative and positive
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
- Ability to travel to various construction sites; ability to physically review project sites which may involve use of stairways and mobilizing around the existing landscape.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time using a computer and reading plans/specifications.
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and lead with confidence.
- Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares accurate takeoffs for self-performed trade work including General Conditions, Demolition, Concrete, Carpentry, and Framing and Drywall using 2D or 3D estimating software.
- Assists with pricing labor, material and equipment using historic data, past experience, subcontractor, supplier and rental pricing.
- Prepares accurate estimates for small, medium and large projects. Projects will including public bidding, negotiated work and competitive subcontractor bidding.
- Lead the lump sum bidding process for small-medium-large size projects.
- Completes subcontractor solicitation in a professional manner to meet goals for winning profitable new work.
- Analyze project documents, blueprints, and plans to understand the project fully.
- Analyze contract documents, contracts, purchase orders and subcontracts for compliance and risk management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
- Work with Project Coordinator to ensure proper set up of project information within all applicable software programs including original estimate, project logs (RFI, submittal, change order, contingency), subcontractor contact list and owner/contract information.
- Review incoming Project Changes (PRs, RFPs, CCDs, etc.) and determine proper course of action to responds. Responsible for project-related cost changes (PRs, RFPs, options pricing) and submittal to appropriate parties.
- Perform subcontractor scope reviews and contract buy-out.
- Prepares accurate takeoffs for trade services work to increase the probability of providing profitable work for RW Carlstrom.
- Respond to and complete all other duties, tasks and/or projects as assigned
- Represent RW Carlstrom in community or industry groups and programs.
- Conduct business in a safe, ethical and professional manner, keeping interests of the RW Carlstrom team above individual interests.
- Help attract and recruit other potential high performers to the RW Carlstrom Team.
