Job Summary:
HCA Florida Healthcare East Florida Division, is seeking a dynamic physician leader interested in medical education to be part of our Internal Medicine residency program at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital as Core Faculty. Our East Florida Graduate Medical Education Division currently encompasses 44 high-quality residency and fellowship programs across 9 teaching hospitals and continues to grow its UME and GME footprint. Our vision and mission are to become a driver of quality and positive change in medical education, to provide our learners with the highest quality training experience and maintain excellent outcomes, to systematically engage our learners and faculty in research and scholarship, and to retain our graduates as future practicing physicians and teachers within HCA.
Our Core Faculty constitute the foundation of our Graduate Medical Education Programs as they teach our residents and fellows, provide high-quality care to our communities, and ensure that our learners graduate as practice-ready, high-quality physicians. As an essential part of our program, our Core faculty have the responsibilities to:
- Be role models for future generations of physicians by demonstrating compassion, a commitment to excellence in teaching and patient care, evidence-based medicine, professionalism, the advancement of the field of medicine by engaging in scholarship, and by demonstrating a dedication to lifelong learning.
- Provide residents with level and skill appropriate supervision and promote patient safety, cost effective care, as well as progressive resident responsibility and independence.
- Create an effective learning environment, with open communication, free of fear of incrimination or retribution, and attend to resident well-being.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in resident education; regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, didactics, rounds, journal clubs, conferences, and other educational activities as assigned by the Program Director
- On an annual basis, pursue development of their teaching, mentoring and administrative skills related to education, well-being, practice-based learning and improvement and other areas applicable to GME.
By joining HCA Florida Healthcare, the Core Faculty will become part of the largest Graduate Medical Education provider in the US, and will have the opportunity to help shape the direction and goals of medical education at the program and division level.
This role also gives the Core Faculty the opportunity to practice in the his/her desired specialty at the primary and/or closely affiliated sites, under employment by HCA or one of its area specialty partners.
The Core Faculty will also have the opportunity to join the academic faculty of one of our partner medical schools, namely the Nova Southeastern University Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine, and engage in the education of medical students, as well as collaborative research and scholarship. The academic rank will depend on the candidate s experience.
Requirements: It will be required that the Core Faculty is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in his/her specialty, will obtain a License to practice medicine in Florida, and be credentialed at the facilities of his/her clinical engagement. The ideal candidate has some clinical experience in an academic/teaching environment, and has demonstrated involvement and/or a strong interest in medical education, as well as some involvement in research and scholarship over the past couple of years. Candidates that have recently graduated will be considered.
Responsibilities: The Core Faculty will be responsible for day-to-day involvement in the education of the residents and/or fellows, as well as the education of medical students, and devote a significant portion of their overall effort to the education of residents and fellows. As assigned by the Program Director, the Core faculty may be asked to take on the administration or implementation of key components of the program and will support program leadership in the development, implementation, assessment and improvement of parts of the curriculum, resident assessment and mentorship, resident engagement in scholarship and other important tasks.
