Under the supervision of the Director, the Van Driver uses established procedures to complete assigned daily schedules for transporting riders. The employee conducts pre-trip inspection of the van to ensure it is operating properly, performs various chores and errands, and completes daily activity report. The employee also collects fares and performs delivery of meals on wheels to home-bound citizens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Transportation. Operates a passenger van to transport County citizens to various locations. - Transports passengers to doctor's offices, grocery stores, food stamp office, social security office, nutrition center, and other places of need.
- Receives driving assignments from Dispatcher.
- Plans daily driving route based on schedule for the most efficient route.
- Drives routes in a safe and efficient manner.
- Follows assigned daily schedules and reports any additions or cancellations to base.
- Assists passengers getting in and out of van.
- Assists passengers with packages, parcels, and carrying groceries.
- Collects appropriate fares from riders.
- Maintains radio contact with base.
- Reports complaints, accidents or injuries to base.
- Collects fares from riders.
- Delivers homebound meals.
- Maintains daily log of pickups/drop-offs, mileage, and fuel usage.
- Reconciles monies at the end of a shift.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Vehicle Maintenance. Performs routine and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle. - Conducts routine pre-departure inspections of van.
- Performs vehicle cleanup at the end of the day.
- Checks levels of fluids (water, brakes, power steering, oil, windshield washer, etc.), and tires and belts.
- Performs minor maintenance of vehicle.
- Refuels van with gasoline.
- Reports vehicle problems to Dispatcher.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements Minimum Qualifications
- Possess high school diploma/GED.
- One year of experience working with the public; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
- Possess a current and valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Ability to travel out of town and locally.
- Ability to work nonstandard hours.
