Jefferson Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia is searching for a Vice Chair of the Dept of Medicine! The Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine for the Jefferson Methodist Hospital (JMH) campus, in collaboration with the Associate Chief Medical officer for JMH is responsible for all aspects of the Department at JMH related to the educational, research and clinical missions of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and the Jefferson Medical Group. The Vice-Chair should be seen as a role model in clinical care and teaching and be actively engaged with the members of the department and their work. Research expertise is optional, but should complement programs at TJUH/ Center City. Specific responsibilities include:
Reporting- - Reports to the Associate Chief Medical Officer for JMH duties
- Reports to the Chair of Internal Medicine for non-JMH duties
Leadership -
- Regularly updates Departmental Faculty/staff using multiple platforms regarding progress toward our goals and other strategic issues critical to our core missions of Clinical Care and Education.
- Coordinate and integrate interdepartmental and intradepartmental services at and for the JMH Campus.
- Implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of Departmental services at the JMH Campus
Faculty affairs/Recruitment -
- Be responsible for alignment of activity with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations within the Department at the JMH Campus .
- Be responsible for alignment of staff activity with contractual commitments within the Department at the JMH Campus .
- Provides oversight and direction for recruitment, appointment, re-appointment and promotion of faculty in the Department of Medicine who are based at the JMH; ensuring that all SKMC policies and procedures are followed.
- Provide ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) for all JMH based providers within the department of medicine inclusive of subspecialties and within hospital medicine.
- Ensures that annually each faculty member has received an evaluation from either the Vice Chair or their Division Director (or his/her designee).
- Recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/service in the Department at the JMH campus;
- The Vice Chair or his/her designee is expected to foster career development, provide mentoring, orient and provide in-service training as well as continuing education opportunities for all persons in the Department/service at the Methodist Campus
Quality -
- Continuously assess and improve the performance of care and services.
- Ensure there is comprehensive peer review process, distinct from OPPE and FPPE, for evaluation of practice with the department of medicine.
Finances -
- With the support of departmental administration, hospital administrative and the support of the chief administrative officer, provide input into establishing annual budgets for the Department.
- Ensures that budgetary targets are met (or exceeded) and/or variances explained.
Clinical Affairs - Promote a culture of clinical excellence, quality and safety in all practice settings at the JMH campus.
- Collaborate with medical services to establish co-management agreements as directed by the Associate Chief Medical officer for JMH.
- Provide operational oversight of the Hospitalist Medicine program at the JMH campus.
- Provides oversight of all TJUH and TJUH -affiliated internal medicine and subspecialty inpatient practices and services to ensure the quality of the clinical programs.
- Ensure that there is a designated Department, including sub-specialties, attending physician scheduled to be on call for unassigned patients at all times at the JMH Campus and ensure that a copy of the Department's current on-call list for the JMH Campus is provided to the Hospital operator, including the name and means of locating the responsible attending physician.
Educational programs - Responsible for providing oversight of all educational experiences within the Department of Medicine at the JMH campus.
- Promotes the participation of department faculty in the teaching of medical students at every level.
Fundraising Philanthropy- - Engages faculty and Departmental leaders in seeking philanthropic support for new programs, new positions, innovative care delivery models, and facilities for teaching/learning and/or clinical care
Qualifications: - Must be eligible to be a member of the teaching medical staff
- Must be board certified in Internal Medicine or a subspecialty of Internal Medicine
- 5 + years and prior leadership experience preferred
- Primary practice of Hospitalist Medicine preferred
