Your Role With Us:
- Accurately performs skills per policy and procedure; Completes only those skills duties for which competency has been demonstrated basic and advanced skills checklists (follows CNA Task List.)
- Observes and reports any patient condition changes to the Primary Nurse (i.e. abnormal vital signs, abnormal responses to care, change in patient behavior, functional status, patient complaints, changes in skin integrity, falls, etc.
- Completes personal care on each patient as assigned or directed by plan of care and policies and procedures without continual direct supervision; Uses appropriate skills related to a basic knowledge of specific age needs and behaviors when caring for patients as follows: Relates to the patient at his/her levels of development, including family members in the interaction when appropriate; Communicates with a friendly, non-judgmental approach, addressing each patient as appropriate and allowing time for processing information as needed; Care is given in a caring manner, encouraging self-care as appropriate while providing assistance as needed; Encourages a balance between rest and activity as appropriate for the patient.
- Patient identification is always done prior to treatment/tests using two patient identifiers.
- Reinforces patient teaching with activities of daily living (i.e. transfers, turning, positioning, etc.)
- Documents pertinent patient information concisely and legibly using acceptable medical terminology and abbreviation on all assigned patients.
- Demonstrates competency in inputting/retrieving data from computers; Able to utilize downtime forms.
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients and self (i.e. replacing SHARPS containers, following infection control policies, taking broken equipment out of service, utilizing proper lifting and transfer techniques, keeping hallways free of clutter/ spills, etc.)
- Demonstrates flexibility of work schedule by flexing days, hours, and assignments to meet patients' needs and maintain unit productivity.
- Accepts other duties as assigned (i.e..: running errands, taking specimens to laboratory, stocking of supplies, cleaning equipment, maintaining orderly work areas etc.)
- Accepts a variety of patient care assignments and floats to other units as directed; Participates in orientation of new employees.

Background/Expertise:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- CNA I AND CNA II Certifications required at time of hire.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to set priorities and maintain performance in stressful environments with frequent interruptions.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage confidential patient information.
- Requires self-direction and the ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing, accuracy and promptness in completion of projects.
- Demonstrates dedication to good interpersonal communication skills with co-workers and patients; Must have well-developed computer skills and ability to learn additional programs with minimal training; Ability to work tactfully and effectively with providers, nurses and other hospital employees.
