Airswift is working with one of our major Oil and Gas clients to find a Logistic Specialist to join their team in a 6-month contract in Calgary.

Position Overview: The Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating the domestic and international movement of assets, products, and materials as requested by the Business Line. This role ensures the optimization of equipment utilization, selection of cost-effective routing and modes of transport (MoTs), and ensures shipments are planned and booked with approved carriers and third-party logistics providers (3PLs). The Logistics Specialist ensures that all transportation meets the established service levels while complying with internal policies and applicable international transport regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Logistics Coordination & Planning :
  • Serve as the logistics focal point for the Business Line, managing all logistics movements.
  • Validate transport requests, ensuring that the required delivery dates are met for designated regions or lanes, guaranteeing on-time delivery.
  • Develop effective equipment load plans following standard operating procedures, maximizing rental and call-out equipment utilization.
  • Plan cost-effective shipment and truck routings, leveraging consolidation and cargo optimization to minimize costs, including seeking backload opportunities.
  • Shipment Execution & Monitoring :
  • Ensure timely and accurate booking of shipments with approved carriers and 3PLs, securing cost-effective transport.
  • Monitor and track shipment movements, resolving any deviations or issues with logistics suppliers and keeping internal stakeholders updated.
  • Coordinate and manage weekly fixed schedules and regional milk runs.
  • Assess carrier performance based on on-time delivery and pickup metrics, and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Compliance & Documentation :
  • Ensure full compliance with international transport regulations, internal policies, and local regulations, including finance, personnel, and QHSE guidelines.
  • Maintain proper storage and documentation of electronic records within the business system.
  • Act as the liaison with Import/Export teams, ensuring smooth communication and accurate documentation.
  • Quality Control & Cost Management :
  • Perform quality control checks of goods received from local and international shipments.
  • Leverage planning and rate checker tools to achieve competitive costs while ensuring that preferred contracted rates are applied.
  • Issue work orders for each move, obtaining the necessary cost approvals from the Business Line representatives.
  • Performance Monitoring & Improvement :
  • Monitor and capture logistics milestone data within the business system, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Report any deviations in service or performance in the QUEST system and follow through with action plans to improve service quality.
  • Identify potential improvements or optimization opportunities within the logistics network.
  • Participate in performance analysis meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of logistics operations.
  • Operational Support :
  • Manage the loading and unloading of tubulars and equipment from trucks on a daily basis (certification in Forklift and Crane operation required).
  • Ensure that cargo moves are tracked and deviations are investigated promptly.
  • Work closely with the Business Line and other departments to ensure the smooth flow of logistics operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education : A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience :
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or transportation coordination, preferably in the oil & gas or industrial sector.
  • Experience with domestic and international shipping and logistics planning.
  • Certifications : Forklift and Crane certifications required; any relevant logistics certifications are a plus.
  • Skills :
  • Strong understanding of logistics, supply chain management, and transport regulations.
  • Proficient in logistics management software and tools, with an ability to manage shipments, track progress, and perform cost analysis.
  • Ability to work with external suppliers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to drive efficiency and ensure cost-effective logistics solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure smooth collaboration across various teams and with external partners.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple shipments concurrently.
